Walk to School
Our Walking Bubble
We fully support bikes and scooters to reduce road congestion around the local area. There is provision to store these on school site, at the owner's risk. We recommend a lockable chain is used to secure equipment during the school day.
As part of WOW, the nationwide walk to school challenge, we regularly talk to the children about the benefits of walking to school. WOW is a pupil led initiative, where children self report how they get to school every day. If they travel sustainably (walk, cycle or scoot) once a week for a month, they get rewarded with a badge. Each month there is a different badge to collect.
What are the benefits of walking to school?
Walking to school helps children feel happier and healthier. They arrive refreshed, fit and ready to learn. More families walking means fewer cars during the school run, helping to reduce congestion and pollution at the school gates.
Is walking to school safe?
Walking to school remains the best way to reduce congestion and improve road safety at the school gates, whilst increasing activity and befitting pupil wellbeing. Walking to school is the best way to reduce the likelihood of accidents.
What if you can't walk to school?
If you live too far away or don't have time to walk the whole way, you can 'Park and Stride' to help your child earn their badge. Walk in or hop on public transport for the last 10 minutes of your journey.
